FAQs
Is stainless steel actually safe for babies — and why is it better than plastic?

Stainless steel is one of the most health-conscious material choices you can make for your child's feeding set, and for good reason. The stainless steel tips and surfaces are free from chemicals — no BPA, no phthalates, no lead, and no harmful leaching that can occur when plastic dinnerware is heated in the microwave or washed repeatedly in a hot dishwasher. Unlike plastic, which can degrade over time and release microplastics into food, stainless steel is a stable, inert material that doesn't break down with use. The smooth, non-porous surface of stainless steel prevents the absorption of food particles and bacteria, making it far more hygienic than plastic or melamine alternatives that develop micro-scratches where bacteria can hide. From an environmental standpoint, stainless steel is 100% recyclable at the end of its life, produces no microplastic waste during daily use, and is durable enough to last through multiple children — making it one of the lowest-waste choices in the baby feeding category. It is designed for long-term use due to its sturdiness, which means fewer replacements, less landfill, and better value over time

What's included in the set, and from what age can my baby use it?

The Béaba Stainless Steel Meal Set includes an ergonomic plate, bowl, and small cup — all wrapped in protective silicone sleeves giving toddlers everything they need for a complete mealtime in one cohesive set. It is designed for children from 12 months, when babies are typically ready to begin self-feeding and transitioning to grown-up tableware. The ergonomic shapes feature high edges and rounded angles, making them ideal for little hands learning to scoop and eat independently, while the small glass introduces cup drinking in a manageable, right-sized vessel. The set is designed to grow with your child well beyond the toddler years, making it a long-term investment rather than a short-term weaning tool

Can I use the set in the microwave, oven, and dishwasher?

Yes to all three — with one important exception. The components are safe for the microwave, refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher. For oven use, the silicone sleeve must be removed first, with a maximum temperature of 180°C. This makes the set unusually versatile for a children's dinnerware range — you can heat food directly in the bowl or plate, refrigerate leftovers in the same vessel, and pop everything in the dishwasher afterwards without separating components

What does the silicone sleeve actually do — is it necessary?

The silicone sleeve serves two practical purposes that parents tend to appreciate quickly. It offers slip-resistant and noise-reducing protection — meaning the plate and bowl stay put on the highchair tray rather than sliding around, and the inevitable banging and clanking that comes with a toddler at mealtimes is significantly dampened. It also keeps the vessel cooler to touch on the outside when hot food is inside, making it easier and safer for your child to hold their bowl independently. Remove the sleeve before placing the set in the oven, but it can stay on for microwave and dishwasher use

Will the stainless steel rust or stain over time?

The stainless steel used is resistant to rust, corrosion, and staining, ensuring long-lasting use even with daily wear and tear. That said, as with all stainless steel kitchen products, a couple of care habits will keep them looking their best for longer. Some dishwasher detergents can cause added corrosion over time, and if components are not cleaned, rinsed, or dried sufficiently there can be a slight risk of surface marks — so a quick rinse before loading into the dishwasher and ensuring pieces are dry before storage is recommended. Any minor discolouration from high-mineral water or detergent residue can usually be removed with a gentle scrub using a soft cloth and white vinegar
