World Breastfeeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week

WBW commences Sunday 1 August 2021 - Saturday 7 August 2021.

Breastfeeding is a shared responsibility #WBW2021

The Australian Breastfeeding Association are doing a call-out for #breastfeedingvillage brelfies (brelfies showing others supporting mum's breastfeed – e.g. dads, partners, mothers-in-law, grandmas, brothers, sisters, etc.)

Here are our tips for storing express breastmilk:

  • When storing breastmilk, use products which are made for freezing human foods/milk
  • Glass or hard BPA-free plastic bottles with tight-fitting lids (every drop is precious!)
  • Do not use containers with the recycle number 7, which may contain BPA
  • Do not use disposable bottle liners or other plastic bags to store breastmilk
  • Always label container with date of expressing/pumping
  • Pull forward your stock! Place your last expressed milk container behind older expressed breastmilk

According to the National Health and Medical Research Council 2012, Infant Feeding Guidelines. NHMRC, Canberra p59, Breastmilk can last 2 weeks in freezer compartment inside refrigerator (-15°C), 3 months in freezer section of refrigerator with separate door (–18°C) and 6–12 months in deep freeze (–20°C**)
